Description
An ancient burial practice In South Carolina was the Receiving Tomb. It housed the newly deceased while his or her grave was prepared, and was designed to keep bodies cool before modern embalming techniques.
Another advantage of the Receiving Tomb was in making sure someone wasn't buried alive.
This tomb is located in Charleston, South Carolina.
